Veľká Studená dolina

Veľká Studená dolina is a 7 km long valley, highly attractive for tourists. Behind the narrow closure, it is divided by several rocky thresholds in the upper enlarged part. They hide the highest number of tarns (22) from all the Tatra valleys. In the south, it is lined by a massive character of the Slavkovský štít and at the end by part of the main ridge of the High Tatras. In the north-east it borders with ridge of Prostredný štít. The blue marked trail enters the valley above the chalet Rainerova chata and above the forest and dwarf-pine zone it rises along Vareškové and Dlhé pleso up to Zbojnícka chata. Here ends the yellow trail from Malá Studená dolina that comes through Priečne sedlo. Above the chalet and along the tarns Zbojnícke plesá, the blue-marked trail sharply rises to the saddle Prielom. There is a possibility to descend to the valley Bielovodská dolina by blue-marked trail or over saddle Poľský hrebeň by green-marked trail to the valley Velická dolina. The descent from the saddle Prielom and saddle Poľský hrebeň is secured by chains.
