Monkova dolina

The valley is situated in the northern part of Belianske Tatras and is 5 km long. It was created by the activity of glaciers and in its closure is bordered with massif of Hlúpy and Ždiarska vidla. Above the southern end of the valley, in the main ridge of the Belianske Tatras, rise the peaks of Zadné jatky, Hlúpy and Ždiarska vidla. The saddleback Široké sedlo stretches between Hlúpy and Ždiarska vidla. From here is a good view of the mountain chains Spišská Magura, Pieniny and the High Tatras. Through the valley leads a one-way educational trail which is opened only in the summer season. The starting point of the trail is in Ždiar. The name Monkova dolina originated from the once widespread surname Monka. However, it is not known whether bearers of the name owned the valley, rented it or had any other relationship to it.
