Tatry/Výlety/From Štrbské Pleso to Symbolic Cemetery and Popradské pleso
Pleasant half-day hike suitable also for families, with more options for refreshment and relaxation. Our starting point is at Štrbské Pleso railway station, from where we follow the red and blue trails ( ) on an asphalt road along the souvenir stands. We pass under a bridge. We continue straight up across a bridge to a forrest path that ascends to a junction Rázcestie Trigan. Here we can decide if we want to continue along the red trail with a gentle climb and beautiful views, which is only open during the summer season from 15.6. – 31.10. or we’ll follow the green trail in a forrest that is open all-year round. Both trails lead to Popradské pleso. The red trail leads along the educational trail with educational boards with a name Od plesa k plesu („From one tarn to another“). At the tarn we can fresh up in Mountain hotel Popradské pleso or at Majláthova chata. Popradské pleso is the starting point for many hikes in the area, eg. Rysy, Hincovo pleso, Kôprovský Peak, Ostrva and Sliezsky dom. From the tarn, we continue with yellow trail ( ) to Symbolic Cemetery with a small chapel, wooden carved crosses and a number of plaques dedicated to the victims of the High Tatras. The motto of the symbolic cemetery is characteristic: „In memory of the dead, warning for the alive“. The cemetery is open to the public from June 15th – December 31st. From the cemetery we descend steeply down the asphalt road and here we can decide whether to follow it down ( ) to the Popradské Pleso tram stop or go back a bit towards Popradské pleso and join the green trail ( ) in the direction of Štrbské pleso. We shall not forget to see the beautiful large Štrbské pleso, Nové Štrbské pleso and Jazierka lásky („Lakes of Love“).
All-day interesting hike for tourists in good physical shape. Starting from tram station Popradske Pleso the asphalt road leads us to the tarn Popradské pleso (1:15h ) and two nearby standing chalets: Chata pri Popradskom plese and Majláthova chata.
